I ran the install on 3.0.2, I keep getting:

Database connection failed!
Please check your database settings!

I created a connection test script and plugged in the same values that are in the sp-config.php and it connects just fine.

Any ideas?

@Martin

Most probably the issue is related with your database configuration and please contact your web hosting provider to fix this issue.

@Mika

I think you haven't restart your wamp server after changing configuration.That will fix the issue

I am trying to install it in my local server and my browser kept saying:

The php.ini directive 'short_open_tag' is not enabled in your Server.
Please enable it from php.ini file by referring
http://php.net/manual/en/ini.core.php
or
Please contact your web hosting provider to Enable it.

I went to my wamp server and got php.ini and made short_open_tag on, but still not working. What is the solution?

When installing, it won't let me configure the database. It says, Mysql Error: Access denied for user 'whoever'@'localhost' (using password: YES). I made up the answers on that page, not knowing if they have to be anything in particular, i.e., database name, user, password.
